Lucian is one of my favorite ADCs in the entire game; however, I often find myself asking the question, "Can I use my R while doing something." I decided to create a guide and analyze most of the possible interactions during standard League of Legends play.
Basic Information about Lucian's Ultimate
First, let's set up some basics and information on how Lucian's ultimate ability works - The Culling. It deals physical damage to enemies and scales with AD, AP, and a newly added critical chance. The number of shots increases with your critical chance. You cannot use abilities other than E (Relentless Pursuit) while using your ultimate. However, you can use certain items and summoner spells.
Lucian's Ultimate Interactions
First interactions that allow you to keep firing your ultimate while under the effects of those skills or items.
Walk with:
- W of Thresh – Dark Passage
- R – Devour by Tahm Kench
- Lucian's E – Relentless Pursuit
- Use summoner spells (including teleport and flash)
You can also use certain items while your ultimate is firing.
- Ramper du rôdeur
- Wind force
- Protobelt Hextech
- eternal jelly
- drinker
- stride breaker

Does NOT work with:
Items that will interrupt The Culling:
- Zhonya's Hourglass
- Stopwatch
Lucian's Ultimate is a channeled ability, so it's also interrupted by most difficult CCs. I'll list the crowd control that interrupts The Culling and some examples of those effects:
- Side Kick (Draven's E)
- Repel (R of Aurelion)
- Knock Up (Alistar’s Q)
- Shoot (Aatrox's W)
- Charme (E d'Ahri)
- Fear (W of Shaco)
- Provocation (W for Galio)
- Silence (W de Cho Gath)
- Perturbation (A de Kassadin)
- Drowsiness/Sleep (Zoe's E)
- Stasis (Barde's R)
- Stun (Ashe is R)
- Suspension (Nami's Q)
- Suppression (Malzahar's R)
The other crowd control doesn't interrupt Lucian's Ultimate, so root, for example, won't cancel his chain. Abilities like Spell Shield or items like Banshee only block one shot, so it doesn't have as much of an impact. Other notable skills that will not cancel but block your ultimate ability are:
- W of Yasuo – Wall of Wind
- And Braum - Unbreakable
- Gwen's W - Hollow Mist
- E of the Pantheon - Aegis Assault
- Any invincibility like Tryndamere's R or Kayle's R
