Pokémon Go CP Calculator: For Evolutions, Purification, and IVs

What is a Pokemon Go CP Calculator, and Why Would You Need One? To be completely honest, it's a complicated system of guesswork and estimation. You use a CP calculator to determine – approximately – how strong your Pokemon is when you evolve it. We'll get into the details below, but that's all you need to know to get started.

No matter how long you play Pokémon Go, you'll have a variety of Pokémon all sitting around with different CP, but even then you might not know exactly what a Pokémon Go CP calculator is. Personally, I have everything from 4138CP Mewtwo to 10CP Pikachu wearing an adorable Mimikyu costume. We won't get into the fact that Pikachu is wearing a Pokémon costume dressed as Pikachu, but my point is that Mewtwo is clearly a lot stronger than that electric rat, cute as he is.

Generally, the higher your Pokemon's CP, the better. However, there are certain situations where you might want a Pokémon with a lower CP, such as to participate in Go Battle League tournaments that implement CP restrictions. But first, how does it work?

Everything you need to know about a Pokemon Go CP Calculator:

Calculatrice Pokémon Go Evolution CP

This calculates what a Pokemon's CP will be when you evolve it. So let's say you have a 600CP Eevee that you want to evolve into Umbreon, you just plug that information into a calculator and it will tell you that Umbreon will be around 1247CP when you evolve it.

The actual algorithm for evolving Pokémon depends on a few other factors, so most good Pokémon Go CP calculators also give you a probable range where your Pokémon should be. In this example, Umbreon should end up somewhere between 1205 – 1282CP.

However, there are also CP calculators that allow you to accurately test Pokémon stats at certain levels. You'll need a bit more information to use this calculator, but it's not too hard to find. Here is what you need:

  • The level of your Pokemon
  • Your Pokémon's IVs

For this example, I'll be using Kangaskhan – a Pokemon that doesn't evolve.

  • Click the three-lined button in the lower right corner, then select “Assess” to see your Pokemon's IVs. These are represented by three bars, each representing a statistic. If it reaches the right side and is red, that means the stat is a perfect 15. If the whole bar is gray, that means it's a 0. The three sections of each bar represent five points in each stat, which makes things easier. to count.
  • My Kangaskhan has 13 attack, 11 defense and 12 HP.
  • Now, to find your level, you can adjust the level section on your CP calculator until the displayed CP matches that of your Pokemon. It should be remembered that all Pokémon hatched from an egg are level 20, and levels increase in increments of 0,5 at a time, up to a maximum of 40.
  • I had fed Kangaskhan once since I hatched her from an egg, so I know she is level 20,5, but I recommend using the trial and error method until that your CP matches what the calculator shows.
  • Then you can see all your stats. In this case, Kangaskhan has 148 HP, 117 Attack, 106 Defense, and 148 Stamina. This could be useful if you want to determine how many hits your Pokemon can take in a battle or raid, for example.

Why do I need a Pokemon Go CP Calculator?

The clearest example of when you might need a Pokemon Go CP Calculator is if you're playing the PvP mode, Go Battle League. To re-use our example above, Umbreon fits nicely into Great League squads, so you want to be sure that evolving your Eevee wouldn't exceed 1500 CP. My 600CP Eevee will be fine, clocking in at 1247CP, which I can then power as close to 1500 as possible.

Ultra League has another CP limit, but the cap is higher at 2500CP. Master League has no CP limit, but you might want to check how powerful your Pokemon is before evolving it anyway.

A word of warning in Go Battle League: Max IVs aren't always the ideal option in Great League and Ultra League. There's some complicated logic behind it all, but you can see exactly what's going on in our sister site The Loadout's guide to the best Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Pokemon Go Purification Calculator

There isn't a specific Pokémon Go Purification Calculator - used to figure out what your Pokémon's CP will look like after purifying it from a Shadow form - but there is a trick you can use.

Using a CP calculator like the one we used earlier for Kangaskhan, do the following:

  • Add 2 to each of your IVs and enter them
  • Set your Pokémon's level to 25
  • Profit

Purifying a Shadow Pokemon adds two to each of your IVs (up to a maximum of 15) and boosts your Pokemon's level to 25. So adding this information to your Pokemon's current stats will give you its new CP.
