There are many factors to consider when putting together the best Pokémon team. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl feature 493 Pokémon and each has different aspects you need to consider. Magikarp and its evolution Gyarados are a solid choice for any team, but to maximize their strengths you'll need the best nature.

- Adamant – (+Attack, -Special Attack)
- Mischievous – (+Defense, -Special Attack)
- Jolly – (+Speed, -Special Attack)
We recommend the Adamant or Jolly nature, although the Jolly nature may be the best. Magikarp and Gyarados have a great attack stat, so the extra boost will allow this Pokemon to hit even harder. Although Gyarados has a decent speed stat, increasing it will allow it to outrun other Pokemon and get that first hit that can make all the difference.
Gyarados has decent defensive stats, so he could play as a physical or special defense tank, but ultimately he's better suited to an attacking role. All three natures sacrifice a special attack that Magikarp and Gyarados don't need.
