Shiny Pokémon are rare versions of Pokémon in Pokémon go that have an altered appearance. They are called shiny because they usually add a slight sheen, which makes them stand out more than normal versions. Magmar returns as Pokémon Spotlight Hour in December 2021, so this is the best chance of getting a shiny version!

Aside from Pokemon that don't have shiny versions in the game, each Pokemon has a base shine rate that tells you how often you'll see a shiny version. Although this information is not confirmed for them, Magmar generally has the standard gloss rate. 1 in 500 (about 0,20%). So for every 500 Magmar you catch, you'll probably only get one shiny version.

How to have
There is no way to force a shiny version of a Pokémon to appear. Instead, players simply have to play the game to hope to encounter one. However, players can use a few tricks to find them more easily.
- Play at events featuring Magmar. The next Spotlight Hour that features Magmar will be hosted on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Spotlight Hours do not increase shine rate like Community Days do, but they do greatly increase the amount of Magmar you see in the wild. It is possible to encounter hundreds of Magmar during a Spotlight Hour, so the likelihood of you encountering at least one shiny is increased!
- Look for nests. Although the information shared on the site is never 100% accurate, the Nest Atlas provided by The Silph Road is a good start to finding specific Pokémon. Like Spotlight Hours, Nests do not increase the shine rate, but they do increase how often you see them in the wild.
