Ascending characters in Genshin Impact essentially increase their current level cap. Players must max out their current level to acquire ascension materials. Once players reach Adventurer Rank 15, they can begin leveling up characters.
With the exception of the Traveler which requires the Brilliant Diamonds material set, different characters require different Ascension materials, depending on their element. These materials include elemental gems, enemy drop materials, and local specialty materials.
Elemental gems

Gems with higher rarity, except shiny diamonds, can be combined with lower rarity materials of the same element, crafting them through alchemy. Players must increase their Adventure Rank to the required level, to unlock the ability to craft certain materials. Shards require Adventure Rank 25, Pieces require Adventure Rank 35, and Gems require Adventure Rank 45.
- Brilliant Diamond (Traveler)
To get all four Brilliant Diamond rarities, simply access a specific Adventure Rank, then go to the Adventurer's Guild in Mondstadt or Liyue and claim the reward.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Agnidus Agate by defeating the Boss Pyro Regisvine on all levels in the world and they can purchase it from shops, defeating Bosses, and converting.
- Amethyst Vajrada (Electro)
Players can obtain all four Vajrada Amethyst rarities by defeating the Electro Hypostasis boss on all world tiers and completing the Trounce, Alchemy, and Conversion areas.
Players can obtain Vayuda Turquoise's four rarities by defeating the Anemo Hypostasis boss on all world tiers and completing the Trounce, Alchemy, and Conversion areas.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Shivada Jade by defeating Boss Cryo Regisvine on all world levels and they can purchase it from shops, defeating bosses, and converting.
Players can obtain all four rarities of Prithiva Topaz, by defeating Boss Geo Hypostasis in all world levels and they can purchase it from stores, by defeating bosses, and by converting.
Local specialties
Local specialties are extremely useful, when it comes to ascending characters, weapons, and crafting potions. Some materials can only be found in the wild, characters in Mondstadt will require materials found there, and characters in Liyue will require materials found in Liyue. Local specialties respawn every two days after looting them, based on the time spent harvesting them, not the server reset time. Players should be sure to mark locations on their maps once found, to remember where to go!
- crystal marrow
- Explore the Inazuma region, as they are only found in the wild. Crystal marrow is found all over these islands.
- Calla lily
- While the plant can grow just about anywhere near water in Mondstadt, the best place to grow them is the small pond in Springvale, just south of the town of Mondstadt itself.
- Cécile
- Explore the Mondstadt region. Cecilia can be found on Snarsnatch Cliff. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who has the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.
- Color Lapis
- Explore the Liyue area. Cor Lapis can only be found throughout the Liyue region in abundance, under the cliffs. It is a mineral, so players must mine it.
- dandelion seed
- Explore the Mondstadt region. Dandelion seeds can be collected from the wild; However, there is a cluster southwest of Dawn Winery and north of Sal Terrae where players can find a few huddled together.
- ice lily
- Explore the Liyue area. Glaze Lily can only be located in Qingce Village and Liyue Port, or Yujing Terrace. Glaze Lily can also be purchased from Ms. Bai, an NPC who lives in Qingce Village.
- Jueyun Chili
- Explore the Liyue area. Jueyun Chili can only be found in Liyue, mainly in Qingce Village and around Qingyun Peak. It can also be purchased at Wanmin Restaurant in Liyue Habor. Here you can talk to an NPC called Chief Mao.
- Jade Noctilucous
- Explore the Liyue area. Noctilucous Jade can only be found in caves, and mainly in Mingyun Village. It is a mineral, so players will need to mine it. It can also be purchased by talking to an NPC called Shitou at a store in Liyue Port called Jade Mystery.
- Philanemo Mushroom
- Explore the Mondstadt region. It can be picked up from the attics of houses in Springvale and Mondstadt and it can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering botanist in the Windrise region. - Explore the Liyue area. Qingxin can be found in numerous quantities on Wuwang Hill and around Qingyun Peak, mainly in Jueyun Karst and Huaguang Stone Forest. It can also be purchased from the Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Port by speaking to the NPC's Herbalist Guild.
- Be Ganoderma
- Explore the Inazuma region. Since the end of the Golden Apple Archipelago, they have moved to the Inazuma Islands.
- silk flower
- Explore the Liyue area. Silk Flower can be located on Yujing Terrace in Liyue Harbor and outside Wangshu Inn. It can also be purchased from Inn Boss Wangshu.
- Small Grass Lamp
- Explore the Mondstadt region. It can be found in a number of Whispering Woods and Wolvendom. Explore these areas at night. Small Grass Lamp emits light at night. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who has the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.
- Starconch
- Explore the Liyue area. Starconch can be found on the beaches and coasts of nearby Liyue Islands. This makes Yaoguang Shoals, Guyun Stone Forest, and the east coast of Guili Plains the best places to farm these materials.
- valberry
- Explore the Mondstadt region. Valberry can only be found in Stormbearer Mountains and Stormbearer Point. It cannot be located anywhere else in nature. It can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering botanist in the Windrise region. She travels between the road from Mondstadt to the Temple of the Thousand Winds. She can only be located on the road between 6 a.m. and 19 p.m.
- violetgrass
- Explore the Liyue area. Violetgrass can be located throughout the region, though it spawns in large numbers around Mingyun Village, Wuwang Hill, and between Lingju Pass and Dunyu Ruins. It can also be purchased from the Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Port by speaking to the NPC Herbalist Guild.
- Wind wheel aster
- Explore the Mondstadt region. Windwheel Aster can only be found next to the Statue of Seven in Windrise and Stormterror's Lair. It cannot be located anywhere else in nature. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who has the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.

- Explore the Mondstadt region. Wolfhook can only be found in Wolvendom and it cannot be located anywhere else in the wild. It can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering botanist in the Windrise region. She travels between the road from Mondstadt to the Temple of the Thousand Winds and can only be located on the road between 6:00 a.m. and 19:00 p.m.
- Fleur de Sakura
- To find Sakura Bloom, players must destroy the electro pink and purple clusters that form in the Inazuma region with an electro attack. Any other attack and nothing will happen to the cluster.
- Oh weed
- Explore the three islands in the Inazuma region, as they are only found in the wild.
- Onikabuto
- Onikabuto is a regional specialty found only in Inazuma. In addition to being found in the wild, four Onikabuto can be obtained by speaking to Shouta in Inazuma Town.
- Dendrobium
- Dendrobium is a regional specialty found only in Inazuma, particularly on Yashiori and Kannazuka islands. This item can only be found in the wild.
- fruit fields
- The main area to get Amakumo Fruit is at Amakumo Peak, but a strong Electro Storm is engulfing the area, so being anywhere near this central area will continuously drain players' HP.
- blood pearl
- Sango pearls are found among the shells and corals of Watatsumi Island; many can notably be found in the reefs below Sangonomiya Shrine and a few are also found in the Suigetsu Pool and near the heart of Watatsumi.

Normal boss enemies will drop rewards for defeating them, as well as some character ascension materials, depending on level and boss type.

- To obtain Juvenile Jade, players must kill Boss Primo Geovishap in World Tier 1.
- Crystalline bloom
- To get Crystal Blossom, players must kill the Cryo Hypostasis boss on any world tier.
- puppet core
- To obtain a puppet core, players must kill the boss Maguu Kenki on any world level.
- perpetual heart
- To obtain a Perpetual Heart, players must kill Perpetual Mechanical Dies in the Inazuma region on any world tier.
- Steaming pearls
- To obtain a Smoldering Pearl, players must kill the Boss Pyro Hypostasis in the Inazuma region on any world tier.
- dew of repudiation
- To obtain a Dew of Repudiation, players must kill the Hydro Hypostasis boss in the Inazuma region on any world tier.
