In Pokémon Go, there are many reasons to catch a ditto. Chief among them is that Ditto appears as a task in the A Mega Discovery questline. The problem is that Ditto disguises itself as another Pokémon on the map, and you don't know if it's a Ditto unless you catch it. Fortunately, we have the list of Ditto disguises to help you save time and keep your Pokéballs usage.

Ditto is one of the most frustrating Pokemon in the game. It's hard to catch one and can often be dismissed as we think it's a Pokemon we've caught many times before. On top of that, it's not very effective in combat. Here are some general tips on how to catch and release the transforming Pokemon.
- You know as soon as you catch one. When you catch it, before you even get to the Pokémon's page, your process will be interrupted by a screen that simply says Oh? Your Pokemon will then transform into the same, if there is one.
- If you do it for the research task, first try to do the quest to catch 10 ghost Pokemon. This quest is part of the same line and will usually happen before you catch the Ditto, anyway. Some players (including us) believe that completing the other two tasks in this section will greatly increase the chance of a Ditto appearing on your map (disguised as one of the Pokemon listed above, of course).
- Do not use Ditto in Battle. Ditto mimics everything about his opponent except their HP, and a Ditto's HP is usually low. This puts other Pokémon at an advantage. The best use of a ditto is to keep it on a shelf and admire how adorable it is.
